Up again, and the building narrows into something quieter. Two bedrooms sit tucked beneath the eaves, the roofline pressing close enough to feel like it’s keeping a secret, each fitted with a super-king zip-and-link bed that splits into twins when it needs to. Down the hall, the family bathroom trades old-bank grandeur for something softer – marble and wood, and a walk-in rainfall shower to wash the day off in.
The Vault and Ground-Floor Snug
Downstairs, the building keeps its history close. The original bank vault has become a snug with no daylight, a velvet sofa, a TV and an Xbox – the kind of room that asks you to slow down. A second snug on the ground floor holds an antique desk and an Ercol bench, Smart TVs, Xbox and Alexa are dotted throughout, the WiFi is fast and reliable everywhere, and outside, a sheltered courtyard garden with a pergola and lavender seats four.

Lynwood & Co does coffee and pastries just around the corner, Colosseo serves authentic Italian a few doors down, and The Bull Hotel sits on the market square, thirty seconds from the door. The Marlborough Arms and The Plough are both a short walk for a pint, and the Co-op and Budgens cover everyday supplies.
Exploring the Cotswolds from Fairford
Fairford sits perfectly for exploring the southern Cotswolds. Lechlade and the upper Thames are only a few minutes away, and Bibury; widely regarded as the prettiest village in England and only fifteen minutes by car, where Arlington Row and the old trout farm are worth an unhurried morning.
Cirencester is twenty minutes and rewards a full day, with independent shops, twice-weekly markets, the Corinium Museum and one of the largest Roman amphitheatres in Britain. Burford, the gateway to the Cotswolds, is around half an hour, as is Cotswold Wildlife Park. Closer to home, Kelmscott Manor, William Morris’s country retreat, sits beside the Thames just twenty minutes away, and the lakes of the Cotswold Water Park are a short drive west.
Some of the country’s best pub kitchens are scattered between them, from The New Inn at Coln St Aldwyns and The Swan at Southrop to The Ox Barn at Thyme and The Wild Rabbit at Kingham. Cheltenham and its racecourse are within an hour, and Swindon and Kemble stations offer direct trains to London Paddington in a little over an hour.

Fairford is a proper working Cotswold town rather than a film set, which is exactly what makes it worth staying in.
