Who doesn’t love a market-town stay in the Cotswolds? And Stow-on-the-Wold is the highest and one of the most handsome of them all, known for its honey-coloured market square, antique shops, and independent boutiques.
Everything is within easy walking distance of White Hart Cottage, whether you’re browsing in for a coffee or heading to one of the pubs behind you for a Sunday lunch worth talking about.
Footpaths lead straight out of town towards Broadwell and the Slaughters, some of the prettiest villages in England, while the surrounding countryside opens into classic rolling Cotswold scenery. If you fancy it, you’re not far from Jeremy Clarkson’s Diddly Squat Farm, a popular stop for visitors, so plan accordingly.
The wider Cotswolds are easily explored from here, with destinations such as Bourton-on-the-Water, Chipping Norton and the award-winning Daylesford all within a short drive. Kingham station is around fifteen minutes away and offers direct trains into London Paddington, ideal for longer stays or weekend visits.
Getting Around
Stow-on-the-Wold is best enjoyed on foot, and once you arrive you can happily leave the car for the day, with the square and both pubs only a few minutes’ walk away. For exploring the wider villages, we’d recommend travelling by car to get the most out of the area. Kingham station is within easy reach and offers direct trains into London Paddington.
